Joan Lewis

     Joan Lewis was born in Coventry and never moved from this town she loves. Joan has 3 children, all of whom graduated from Coventry High School, played in the band and participated in various athletic teams. Her late husband, Wes, was the first Chairman of the Coventry Town Council. Joan is a respected and beloved member of our community. She has served Coventry in many leadership roles, including on the Town Council, the Board of Education, and as our State Representative for 4 terms, during which she served as Assistant Majority Whip and also an Assistant Majority Leader. She served 4 years as House Chair of the Government Budget Writing subcommittee of Appropriations. As our state rep., Joan brought hundreds of thousands of tax dollars back to Coventry in the form of grants. Currently, Joan is an honorary member of the North Coventry Fire Department, is Co-President of the Coventry Scholarship Foundation Trust which awards thousands of dollars each year to Coventry High School graduating seniors, co-chairs the Coventry School Readiness Council, chairs the Administration Committee of Second Congregational Church of Coventry, and is a member of both the Historical and the Agriculture Committees. Joan has been named Farm Legislator of the Year, and a Children’s Champion.
